Jamiul Azhar Central College has been founded in 1921 . The original name of the school was Government Muslim Boys School. Mr.S.M.S.Abdul Raheem (Master Appa) served as Principal of this school from 1921 to 1923.  The Government Muslim Boys School was existing with the same name until 30.04.1966. Until then 11 principals have headed the school. The Government Muslim Girls School has been started on 01.01.1944 with the Head Teacher Mr.A.G.Abraham. In 1962 the school has been renamed as Udatalawinna Girls Maha Vidyalaya and had been renamed again as Udatalawinna Khadeeja Maha Vidyala in 1963. The both schools have been transformed as mixed schools  and renamed as Jamiul Azhar Maha Vidyalaya  and Udatalawinna Muslim Kanishta Vidyalaya with effective from 01.05.1966. And both schools were managed by two different schools administration until 08.01.1973  In 1973, both schools have been merged and came under purview of one administration. The school retained the name as  Jamiul Azhar Maha Vidyalaya. The school has been upgrade as Central College and named as Jamiul Azhar Central College with effective from 12.02.1993 and is remain same as at now.  The school has produced scholars, educationists, professional in different fields. The school has produced a lot of graduates and is responsible to produce teachers which are the most sorts after occupation by learnt students of this school.
